The Up group Foundation was established in 1999 under the aegis of the Fondation de France, to support project leaders working to combat all forms of exclusion and discrimination, and who create jobs through social innovation, local and sustainable community development, by promoting the SSE (social and solidarity economy) and democratic governance.
In 16 years, the Foundation has awarded nearly 3.3 million euros in subsidies to 750 entities.
The Foundation first developed its activities in France, and now in all Up group’s countries of operations, for the following areas:
Supporting vulnerable populations
Citizenship, culture and education
Sustainable local development
Prevention, nutrition and health
Social research and innovation
Development of cohesion, social dialog and democratic governance
The Up group Foundation goes global
On 10 March 2014, the Up group Foundation signed an international partnership agreement with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, aiming to jointly foster and support significant projects that are socially and economically viable and engaged. This partnership takes the form of cooperation between the local Up group subsidiary and the French diplomatic network. Together they select the projects which will receive support, and are then validated by the Foundation.
Morocco, Romania and Turkey were the three countries selected for experimentation in 2014. 7 projects were chosen by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Up group Foundation for the allocation of € 30,000 in grants.
By 2015, the Foundation’s international activity was further deployed in Italy, Mexico, Poland and the Czech Republic, the goal being to be present in all Up group countries of operation by 2018.
At the heart of the SSE
In addition to funds allocated by its Executive Committee, the Up group Foundation develops partnerships in the social and solidarity economy, with:
- entities that act as a relay for the Foundation, in a particular sector, to support co-opted and targeted projects;
- other foundations or players in the SSE to carry out joint activities or participate in calls for projects;
- network organizations, to think and act in the service of civil society.
